A Comprehensive Guide to Lookah Electric Nectar Collectors - Celebrating Five Years of Innovation

LOOKAH has established itself as one of the leading brands for vape pens and particularly electric nectar collectors.

The company saw the opening niche in the market and rushed to fill it with some outstanding devices synonymous with the brand. In this article, we will take a closer look at the development of this range of devices from Lookah and what makes them the leading brand in this niche.

What are Electric Nectar Collectors?

An electric nectar collector is a portable device designed for vaporizing concentrates like wax or oil, eliminating the need for a separate torch.

However, unlike regular wax pens that have a dedicated heating chamber, these devices have a hot tip that you dip directly into the concentrate. This hot tip vaporizes the wax, which is inhaled through the straw-like device. There are several different devices, some incorporating water bubblers and others that can be used with a dab rig. However, all have the same goal: to make dab wax concentrates easier and more enjoyable without the hassle of a torch.

Lookah's Evolution in Electric Nectar Collectors

Lookah launched its first nectar collector way back in 2019. This was called the Seahorse, and the name later became synonymous with nectar collectors, which has reappeared on several iterations of nectar colletors from the company.

The original Lookah Seahorse was priced at around $50 back in 2019. A later version with limited edition colors in rainbow, camo, or tie dye was introduced for a few dollars more. In September 2019, the Seahorse won the best paraphernalia award at the CBD Expo.

Seahorse Overview

It featured a 650mAh battery, which was charged via a micro USB cable included with the device.

The Seahorse had the first of the Seahorse coils dedicated to this range of devices. This coil used a 510 thread and was made of crushed quartz. The quartz had a metal wire running through it, which caused it to heat up very rapidly as the device was activated. A hole in the center of the quartz allowed the melted wax to be sucked through the device in the form of vapor.

The Seahorse original was very portable and easy to use. Another bonus of this early model was that it could be used with most 510 vape carts. However, the air path inside the device was bent around the internal battery, which made cleaning the airway hard. Additionally, the mouthpiece wasn't removable, which made it harder to clean.

In 2020, Lookah introduced the Seahorse Pro for around $55. This model also has a 650mAh battery and a micro USB for charging. However, Lookah learned from the drawbacks of the previous model and designed the pro with a direct airflow encompassed in a glass tube that also made up the mouthpiece. They took the vaping experience to a new level and put the vapor on display so it could be seen traveling from the heated coil up the glass tube and out of the mouthpiece, showcasing the vapor and clean air path.

At the same time, the Type II ceramic coil was launched, which added an alternative hotter tip for those wanting to rip thicker, more viscous concentrates or enjoy larger could.

The removable glass mouthpiece made the Seahorse Pro easier to clean, and Lookah even included a silicone hose accessory with an adapter so the device could be used with water pipes. This version proved so popular that the company sold over 100,000 units in the first few months.

Seahorse Pro

The Seahorse 2.0, released in the same year, is priced at $42.99. It offers the same 650mAh battery as in the previous models; however, it solves the problems with the Seahorse original by making the air path inline and adopting a removable plastic mouthpiece for easier cleaning and better durability, making it a more suitable option for use on the go.

The Seahorse 2.0 also adopted a new ceramic tube tip, offering a larger vaping surface and airway for more substantial clouds. It also works with all the other Seahorse tips and 510 carts. This model introduced USB type C charging, which enabled faster recharge times and pass-through charging ability to be used while recharging.

In 2021, Lookah launched the Seahorse Max. This is a larger and more expensive device featuring a 950mAh battery. It comes with two Type I coils and a large water bubbler, which is removable for easy cleaning.

Seahorse Max

A stand is also included with the Seahorse Max kit, making it more suited for desktop use. Due to its size and the large glass bubbler, it is not considered a portable nectar collector but makes for an excellent desktop unit. The stand makes it easy to use with one hand in session mode.

The Seahorse X was also released in 2021 and was priced around $150. Like the Max device, it has a sizeable 950mAh battery for plenty of usage between charges. This versatile device comes with a Type I Seahorse coil, Type III Seahorse coil, and 710 Bucket coil.

Seahorse X

This makes it unique as a nectar collector as it can also work as a dab pen and enail as well as a 510 battery. So, it's a genuinely versatile multi-dabber device. It features a removable glass mouthpiece, which can be exchanged with a glass bubbler, and has a 14mm adapter for glass rigs. It's Lookah's answer to the much-lauded Huni Badger nectar collector, and while it doesn't have a replacement battery like the Huni Badger, it offers a massive array of features at a very realistic $150, making it at least 25% less than the Huni badger.

The Seahorse Pro Plus arrived in 2022 and was priced between $53.99 and $57.99, depending on the color scheme.

It has a 650mAh battery with Type C USB charging and comes with a Type V coil.

The Type V coil was a significant upgrade for the Seahorse Pro Plus. This is a quartz-tipped glass tube with a spiral of wire running through the quartz.

Seahorse Pro Plus Overview

The dab tip is by far the best Lookah offer and gives a visual treat as you can watch the vapor from wax to mouthpiece all the way up the device.

This upgraded version of the Seahorse Pro is slightly larger than its predecessor but can use the same water bubbler attachment for smoother hits. It's just as easy to clean with the removable glass mouthpiece, and with the resin mouthpiece accessory, you can swap the glass tube out for something more durable for on-the-go use.

The Giraffe released in 2023 moves away from the Seahorse name, but one glimpse of this unique design and the name makes sense.

Selling for $59.99, the Giraffe was the first of the nectar collector range to use a metal body. It had a barrel-like body with a neck supporting the dab tip and glass tube mouthpiece, which is the same as the one used on the Pro and Pro Plus.

The base has a unique button with a built-in display that gives a precise battery charge, shown as a percentage. Like the other electric nectar collectors, it has three preset voltages and session or manual mode options. With its ability to stand upright freely without needing a stand, this little device makes a great desktop daily dabber. It indicated how Lookah was changing towards more robust metal designs, which we see repeated in the Seahorse King and Queen.

The Seahorse King was new in early 2024 and sells at $69.99.

It features a 950mAh battery with Type C USB charging at 800mA, so you can recharge the device in under 1.5 hrs.

Many customers expressed they enjoyed getting two coils, so the Seahorse King came with two Type V seahorse coils, ensuring you got plenty of use right out of the box without any further upfront investment.

LOOKAH Seahorse King Overview

It is designed as an upgraded replacement for the Seahorse Pro Plus, offering larger battery capacity, quicker charge times, and intuitive LED lights denoting voltage and remaining charge.

The Seahorse Queen was another new release for 2024 and is listed for $125.99. It has an 800mAh battery and Type C USB charging. Like the King, it includes two Type V coils and features a metal body with faster charging capabilities.

LOOKAH Seahorse Queen

The glass bubbler is the same sort as used on the Seahorse Max, and it delivers excellent water filtration. Enhanced with intuitive lights that illuminate the bubbler for aesthetic appeal, the Queen is an upgraded replacement for the Seahorse Max, and like the Giraffe, it has a free-standing design, so there is no need for any extra stand.

The Whale is the latest nectar collector release for 2024 and comes at a reasonably priced $39.99. With many cheaper electric nectar collectors entering the market from a range of competitors eager to steal their thunder, Lookah moved to ensure they still had a great option for entry-level users.

LOOKAH Whale

The Whale features a 500mAh battery with Type C USB charging and a Type V Seahorse coil. It is compatible with all Seahorse coils and stands out for its portability and durability. The Whale offers a straight air path for easier cleaning and intuitive lights for operation mode and power levels, making it a lightweight and fast-charging update to the Seahorse 2.0. It also adopts a wider ergonomic body design and borrows some aesthetics from nature.

Conclusion

It's great to see that we move closer to perfection with every iteration. Lookah modifies and tweaks the design to offer a better experience and a more robust device.

Lookah's progression from the original Seahorse to the new lineup of the Seahorse King, Queen, and the Whale shows their dedication to enhancing user experience through continuous innovation. Each model has its unique features, catering to various preferences and needs, from portable convenience to high-performance desktop use.
