Understand Thalassemia
Thalassemia is an inherited disease from parents. The main feature of thalassemia is the inability of the body to produce enough hemoglobin and red blood cells. Hemoglobin is a very critical protein that is found in the human red blood cells, because it basically carries oxygen in the blood to all parts of the body. In thalassemia, due to some inadequate synthesis of the hemoglobin, the organisms become deficient in oxygen and form into anemic conditions. It can manifest mainly in two major types: Alpha-thalassemia and Beta-thalassemia.
