England Test captain Ben Stokes stated that there have been no discussions regarding his returning to the limited-overs squads but he would be open to answering the white-ball team under new coach Brendon McCullum if asked.
After two years of leading the Test team while Matthew Mott was in charge of the white-ball teams, McCullum was appointed head coach of all formats. McCullum was designated the all-format head coach when Mott left in July. The New Zealander will lead the limited-overs team when England visits India in January.
Stokes hasn't played much for England's white-ball sides, but ever since McCullum took over as captain in May 2022 he has been a crucial part of the Test team. He played his last T20 match in November 2022 during England's successful World Cup final. He had previously retired from ODIs before returning for the ODI World Cup last year.
Stokes said to Sky Sports on Tuesday "I'm very happy and content with what I've achieved in that form of the game. I've played a lot of white-ball cricket for England."
"If I receive a call to come play I will answer yes. If I don't, though I won't be too upset because it will just allow me to watch from a distance while everyone else goes out and gets it.
"Baz (McCullum) and I didn't talk about anything like that at all."
Stokes hasn't played since he tore his left hamstring during the Northern Superchargers' game in The Hundred last month. The 33-year-old stated that he would get a scan on Wednesday and that his recuperation was going well.
"You use everything in bowling so I want to get my leg failing in addition to other things." He went on. “I need to get that all right to make sure I don’t do any more damage to any other parts of my body.”
