Reddy Anna’s Take: Bhui Eyes Bigger Honors After Domestic Success .
Reddy Anna's latest analysis highlights Bhui, an upcoming star in domestic cricket who plans for greater exposure following a run of outstanding results. Bhui, who has shown to be an outstanding athlete with incredible regularity, is ready to transform his hometown success into worldwide fame. Bhui is in an excellent spot Reddy anna for the future thanks to his dedication, technical ability, and drive for achievement, believes Reddy, particularly in the coming weeks. Reddy's reports, which emphasize the vital link between local excellence and international objectives, reflect Bhui's excitement in his potential to become an important member of the national team as he aspires for bigger awards.
In a Syed Mushtaq Ali clash in Ranchi last year, Andhra found themselves sunk at 34 for six while chasing a daunting 276 set by Punjab, thanks to a blistering knock from current IPL sensation Abhishek Sharma. Enter Ricky Bhui at No. 5, who counter-attacked with an unbeaten 104 at a remarkable strike rate of 200, taking on a bowling attack that comprised Arshdeep Singh, Siddarth Kaul, and Mayank Markande among others. Andhra still lost the game but Bhui (27), typically, was unstoppable. The knock earned him an IPL contract, with Delhi Capitals, but that's a white ball tale.
Since then, he has displayed even greater abilities and consistency in red-ball cricket and belongs to a rare breed of cricketers who has more centuries than half-centuries -- 20:19 (in a first-class career spanning 74 matches). Over the past eight to nine months, he has emerged as one of the most prolific run-scorers in domestic cricket, topping the Ranji Trophy charts with 902 runs in 13 innings (at an average of over 75), 73 more than the indefatigable Cheteshwar Pujara in as many innings. Most recently, in three Duleep Trophy games in Anantapur, he amassed 359 runs, becoming the highest scorer in the just-concluded tournament. Among those runs were two centuries, both coming in the second innings for the Shreyas Iyer-led India D.
Breaking into the star-filled Indian team at this stage is not easy, especially with the batting line-up packed with high-quality, in-form batsmen. History has shown, however, that players from lesser-heralded regions like Andhra - Reddy anna book far from a tier-one state in the domestic setup - often slip under the selectors' radar. The numbers of Bhui have been staggering and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has named Bhui for the upcoming Irani Cup, starting in Lucknow next week.
MSK Prasad, himself hailing from the same state as Bhui, believes the youngster is ready for the international stage. "He has been performing exceptionally and consistently across formats. His contemporaries, like Sarfaraz Khan, have already broken into the India squad, so why not Ricky? He deserves a chance in India A (against Australia later this year), and if he continues to impress, the national team could be next. Emerging as the highest run-scorer in both Duleep Trophy in which top players have taken part, is no small feat," says the former India chief selector. Prasad had picked him for the Andhra Cricket Association academy during his age-group cricket days.
"My focus has always been to score as many runs as possible for my teams. The last few seasons have been very fulfilling. Centuries in the Ranji Trophy against Bengal and Uttar Pradesh (last season) came against top-quality bowling and difficult situations, much like my recent hundreds in the Duleep Trophy. I hope to continue in the same vein," Bhui, who has been appointed Andhra's skipper for the season, told Cricbuzz.
Over 10 seasons, he has emerged as Andhra's leading run-scorer with 4,363 runs in 59 games. Y Venugopal Rao, an international cricketer from Andhra, boasts more first-class runs overall but he has played for other states too. Bhui's contribution to Andhra is unmatched.
Hanuma Vihari included in Andhra team
Meanwhile, Hanuma Vihari has been named in the Andhra squad for the upcoming domestic season. The India batsman had previously threatened to leave the state, citing political interference and mistreatment by the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). However, as recently reported by cricbuzz Vihari had a change of heart and decided to continue representing Andhra. The squad, led by Ricky Bhui, also includes international KS Bharat, with young talents Nitish Reddy and SK Rasheed filling the 16-member side.
Andhra Squad: Ricky Bhui (captain), SK Rasheed (vice-captain), KS Bharat (wk), GH Vihari, K Nitish Kumar Reddy, K Maheep Kumar, M Vasmi Krishna (wk), M Abhishek Reddy, KV Sasikanth, Ashwin Hebber, CH Stephen, P Satyanarayana Raju, A Lalith Mohan, G Manish, T Vijay and M Hemanth Reddy.
Reddy Anna’s Take: Samson Likely to Replace Kishan in Bangladesh T20Is .
Will Sanju Samson edge out Ishan Kishan for a spot in India's T20I squad? Both wicketkeeper-batters impressed in the Duleep Trophy recently, with each scoring a century, but Samson outshone Kishan with 196 runs compared to 123 (in four innings for India D and India C respectively). The big question remains: will those numbers be enough to erase the memory of Samson's two ducks in his last two T20Is against Sri Lanka in July? Given his strong form in the Duleep Trophy in Anantapur, there's a good chance Samson might just reclaim his place, though the competition remains fierce.
Kishan recently made headlines for complying with the selectors' diktat to participate in domestic cricket, fueling speculations that he could be recalled to the Indian team for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Before being sidelined almost a year ago - for reasons not entirely related to his on-field performance - Kishan had nearly cemented his place in India's white-ball setup. His consistency had even earned him a spot in the 50-over World Cup squad.
Now, with renewed focus on domestic cricket, Kishan was in with a chance for a recall into the India team but it looks he may well have to wait longer. Kishan has been selected in the Irani Cup squad, while Samson is not part of the October 1-5 five-day fixture, which wraps up in Lucknow just a day before the first T20I against Bangladesh in Gwalior on October 6. While selectors can always pull a player from domestic matches for international duty, it appears that, for now, Samson may remain the preferred choice. With 30 T20Is to his name, Samson may be called upon to open the innings, a role he undertook during the series against Sri Lanka albeit without success.
There is a need for an opener in the T20Is since the selectors, keeping more important Test duties in mind, are unlikely to pick Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The two had opened in the T20Is in Lanka but both are expected to be kept out, just like all other Test players including Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, who were part of the T20I squad in Sri Lanka. The decision may open up a chance for someone like Sai Sudarshan, who featured in a T20I in Zimbabwe in July. The Tamil Nadu and Gujarat Titans batter is part of the Irani squad though. Suryakumar Yadav will be back as captain of the squad which will also have Hardik Pandya in it.
After the first T20Is on October 6 (Gwalior), the teams will play the remaining two on October 9 (New Delhi) and October 12 (Hyderabad).
